Meet the Team

Dr. Pace

Dr. Pace (DVM, DACVECC) graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology and from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, where he also earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He then undertook an intense three-year Advanced Critical Care and Internal Medicine residency. He successfully completed all requirements to apply for and pass his board certification as a specialist in Emergency and Critical Care—a notably challenging specialty!

He has published research, including Brown Recluse Spider Envenomation in Small Animals, and has volunteered as a veterinarian at the Dolphin Research Center, Marathon Wild Bird Center, and Turtle Hospital. Dr. Pace believes that he and his fellow veterinarians have made a lifetime commitment to providing hope and care to those most precious family members who unquestioningly and unerringly love, which makes it all worth it.

Dr. Pace has strongly supported the preservation breeder community, as he also needed a dog specifically bred for form and function. He loves many aspects of the Schipperke breed and has owned five over the past 20 years, including his two current boys, Caddo and Kichai. He found that this compact, confident, and active dog was the ideal traveling companion; where he goes, they go! Dr. Pace also enjoys photography and has taken some incredible photos. You can see some of his work at www.theproofsheet.com.

Subzero is very proud to have Dr. Pace on the team to ensure the standard of care and treatment to the dogs, owners, and breeders is nothing less than exceptional.

I began with Quarter Horses as a young girl. I showcased and still own the all-time top AQHA winner, Acadamosby Award. The equestrian world certainly taught me a lot. I grew up there and believe that great horse and dog people often go hand in hand. I learned the realities of form and function, discovered the many nuances of competing, and developed a passion for animal behavior and genetics.

In college at UCLA, I met an Affenpinscher while traveling for a horse show and brought a puppy home to my family. I then volunteered with a mastiff rescue and encountered my first Dogue de Bordeaux under tragic circumstances. I fell head over heels for the breed and started seeking out people who could tell me more about them. This led me to dog shows, where I quickly found my place in the Dog Show world and embraced the familiar feeling of competing with the animals I loved.

Since then, I have bred and owned the first number one DDB in America and two number one Dogue de Bordeauxs in the Country (2008 and 2016). Those same two dogs also won BOB at the Westminster Dog Show. In 2018, I was the Breeder and Owner of the National Specialty Winner Bruin’s Quarter Quell... aka “Finnick.”

I have always had an Affenpinscher in my life and recently bred my first litter. I also breed and exhibit Bulldogs and am a proud AKC Breeder of Merit.

I am forever a student of dogs and horses.I thrive on learning to the highest degree in what I love and admire. I attended a school for Canine Water Therapy in 2010 and graduated from the Karen Pryor Dog Training Academy in 2011. I will discuss pedigrees and genetics for as long as anyone listens to me, and I have met most of my closest friends in the dog world.

After several years of breeding, I began my career in the Veterinary Technician field as a reproductive technician at Yorba Regional Animal Hospital, eager to deepen my understanding of canine reproduction. I became attached to the clientele and delighted in the chance to help breeders realize their dreams with the dogs they cherished. Attending shows and seeing a puppy I had helped produce, or the offspring of a dog I collected and froze years earlier, brought me great joy.

I have worked at various Reproduction Hospitals, fine-tuning my knowledge and techniques. I also worked as an ER technician, where I really stepped up my game. I then went to school to get my Registered Veterinary Technician’s license.

It was in the ER that I met Dr. Pace, the owner of the ER Hospital, and got to know Samantha much better. We had previously known each other from dog shows and other vet clinics. I always enjoyed working with another preservation breeder who had as much knowledge and heart as Sam did. Working for and with a veterinarian who supported good dog breeders and understood the value of good breeding practices and the wonderful dogs that could come from them was such a breath of fresh air.

This is truly a dream team, and I can’t wait to provide the wonderful world of dog breeders with a safe, passionate, and competent place where you can trust us to take the very best care of your dogs.

"For as long as I can remember, I have had a connection with dogs that I knew I could never be without. My introduction to purebred dogs came long before I was born, as my Mother and Grandmother bred, raised, and exhibited several different breeds over many years. When I was introduced to Golden Retrievers at the age of 12, I knew that in time, this would be the breed that would become a part of my life. It wasn't until the summer before my 18th birthday that I got my first golden to call my own. “Fergie” was and forever will be, my heart dog and golden that changed my life forever. I will never forget making the trip to see the litter for the first time in person when the pups were about 5 weeks of age, and the playful puppy with the pink collar had my heart. The next few weeks couldn't go by fast enough for me to finally bring her home. Fast forward to when Fergie was just shy of being 2 years old. With the help of her breeder and my very good friend and handler, Fergie became my first AKC Champion golden retriever! Little did I know then, that she would be the first of many champions I would get proudly say I own, but now have bred and raised successful show dogs that have obtained their championship, in addition, several of my puppies have successful careers as working service animals, obedience titles, scent work and so on. My love for this breed will continue for many more years to come. Thank goodness for patient husbands who don’t mind the dog hair.

In short, saying I was “born” into the dog world is an understatement. Being pushed in a stroller at the local dog sporting event was normal. Playing with puppies in a small playpen in my parents' office full-fledged boarding and grooming facility are some memories that I still reflect on to this day. My parents have often reminded me that finding your passion can also be your career, giving you something you will enjoy doing for as long as you choose, and it will only be as successful as you make it. The dog world gave me a lot growing up, including earning scholarships at AKC junior showmanship competitions, the opportunity to travel to more than 40 states and multiple countries all before turning 18, producing a schedule to meet my academic needs while allowing me to go to shows on the weekend, and learning to establish and maintain relationships with fellow exhibitors and dog professionals. This shaped me into becoming the person and business professional I am today. Once allowed to become an employee at an extensive veterinary practice with a well-respected reputation, the “obsession” started to develop, and I knew I was meant to be in this field. I wanted to excel as much as I could. I knew I would benefit the employer and provide exemplary knowledge and care for the client. In less than 5 years in the industry, I became the hospital manager of a 24-hour emergency and critical care facility. Implementing protocols and structure in the fast-growing hospital.

Producing training programs and manuals for staff to follow, helping them meet company needs, and giving skills to other employees that could be used no matter where life took them. Establishing relationships with vendors and referring clinics in the area (over 50), providing financial reports, payroll, timekeeping, and job assignments were just some of my daily and weekly tasks. This was done while working on obtaining my credentials as a Registered Veterinary Technician. With this skill set, education, and passion, I know these will make Subzero Canine Reproduction a well-operated business that clients can rely on. Chelsea, Dr. Pace, and I are at the helm, ensuring that proper care and attention are always given. The connection we look forward to establishing with our fellow breeders and dog fancy has pushed us to make Subzero a reality."
